CCMB’s DNA-based method for tiger census

HYDERABAD : Hyderabad-based CCMB has developed a new methodology for monitoring as well as estimating tiger population in protected areas. The method, based on DNA finger printing, would help the government to accurately conduct tiger census in the country at a cost of Rs. 1.5 crore. The institute is also planning to provide technological assistance to the Centre for setting up Rs. 80 lakh vulture handling and breeding centre in Hyderabad.
