To boost biomedical research, post-doctoral fellowships (early stage, intermediate and senior) will be provided through a public charitable trust named the Wellcome Trust and DBT, India Alliance. The Alliance was registered in New Delhi on September 9th, 2008. Each year, the Alliance is expected to award around 40 early career fellowships, 20 intermediate fellowships and 15 senior research fellowships. The Wellcome Trust, which has been funding biomedical research globally over seventy years, will use its expertise to enable staff from the Alliance to implement a robust, peer-reviewed funding process. This initiative is expected to infuse much needed pool of talented Human Resource in the biomedical canvass of this country.
