Umbilical cord 'stem cell' hope
27/October 2006

Scientists believe they have found a way to get plentiful stem cells from umbilical cord blood for the treatment of people suffering from various diseases.Dr Colin McGukin and his co workers have identified cells within human umbrical cord blood that appears to be very similar to embryonic stem cells. Some of these cells expressed same protein as embroyonic stem cells ,and were able to develop into liver cells. As one hundred million babies born every year , we have 100 million chances to find cells that have same immunology as we have . Ethically it is acceptable to most of the world.
